Admin and Rock 'n' Roll..releasing my album moves on a few steps!

I received the masters back from Pete Maher this morning and I'm so, so pleased with the result. They sound massive and I'm really proud of the finished product. I hope, when you all hear it, you'll like it too!

Last time I posted I was talking about PR and how I was on the hunt for some promo assistance. Well I'm pleased to say that I'm using <a href="http://www.naked-press.com/" target="_new">Naked Press for my Press Release promotion for the album. They are the sister company of <a href="http://millionpr.com/" target="_new">Million PR who have worked on PR for artists like Josh Ritter and Sufjan Stevens in the past. I'm really pleased to be on board with them. Their job is to produce my press release and start getting magazines, websites etc. interested in the album, I'll keep you posted with how that progresses!

When you release an album independently there is a lot of administration that needs to be taken care of, it's not exciting but in the long run it needs to be done if you want to stand a chance of earning some money and doing things 'by the book'. I spent several hours this week updating my PRS (The Performing Rights Society) account by registering my new songs and the album release. The entails entering ISRC codes, Catalogue numbers and ensuring that the release is properly registered so that radio play etc. can be monitored and royalties can be collected. It's all done now so I can forget about it!

I've also sorted out the release date and digital distribution to Itunes, Amazon, Spotfiy etc. I always use <a href="http://www.recordunion.com" target="_new">Record Union for this, it's such an easy process with those guys. The album is going to be released on Monday 25th June form all good download sites!

The other thing I've done, which is quite fun, is complete the artwork for the CD pressing plant. While I've decided to not do physical distribution for the release (yet) I do like to have some copies professionally pressed so I can sell them through the website and at gigs...every penny helps!

That'sabout it for now, it's been a busy week but a really productive one in terms of getting these things done. Now I can sit back and relax for a few days and wait for the release of We The People, which is out on Monday! I hope you all download it ;-) it's soooo cheap!

Thanks,

Please release me...how to get my 'indie' album to the masses!

As I write this I'm eagerly waiting to get my hands on the masters of my new album. They are currently with <a href="http://www.topfloormusic.co.uk" target="_new">Pete Maher at Topfloor Music in Brighton, I can't wait to hear them next week! He has mastered music for&nbsp;U2, The Killers, Scissor Sisters, Charlie Simpson, Jack White, Depeche Mode and Katy Perry so I know they're in good hands!

This is only the first rung on the ladder of getting 'Back to Forward' released. WIth my first album I was happy to give it away for free to build up a fanbase and get people sharing my music. I did this using Spotify, <a href="http://www.jango.com/" target="_new">Jango, Twitter, Soundcloud, <a href="http://official.fm/" target="_new">Official FM and Facebook - the usual suspects! It was relatively successful and I now have a good number of mailing list subscribers and 'fans' from all over the world...from Peru to Australia!

With the new album I really want to try and get my music to a wider audience and start to (whisper) earn some money from it! I'm not talking the mega bucks of U2 or Lady Gaga...just some extra funds that I can plough back into my music. I set up my own record label, Oh Mercy! Records, several years ago as it made the digital distribution/ISRC codes easier to manage and I also signed up to PRS and PPL to make sure any performance or radio play get's me some little income. This is all great but it still doesn't help the wider world know I'm here! I've got to take it a bit further...time for a check list!

I've got my album, I've got my record label, I've got my royalty collection setup and I've got digital distribution in place (thanks to <a href="http://www.recordunion.com" target="_new">record union). On top of this I have my social networks and website in place. However, what I'm missing - the thing 'established' acts have - is a marketing machine, a collection of PR gurus who are out 'selling' my music to the magazines, websites, radio stations and printed press! Sure, I can do some promotion myself and I do, I send off 100's of CDs, mp3s, Soundcloud dropboxes and Emails to bloggers, webzines and internet radio stations - some of them pay off (<a href="http://www.amusicalpriority.co.uk/feature_spotlight_playrewindeject.html" target="_new">Amp Magazine) and some don't. Recently I've signed up with <a href="http://www.musicsubmit.com/" target="_new">Music Submit to help with this process and the early results are pretty good (check out my review at <a href="http://strutter.8m.com" target="_new">Strutterzine, this was down to the chaps at MS). The DIY process, while tiring and time consuming, does feel good, especially when an interview or CD review appears on-line. I'll keep doing it but if I want my music to really 'get out there' I'm going to have to get the professionals on board!

So that's where I find myself at the moment. I'm currently talking to PR companies, some of them work with new artists and some of them have worked with massive stars but all of them are giving me advice on the best approach to take. It's exciting, I'm learning a lot and what I do learn I'll talk about here. This is going to be where I update you on the latest milestone(s) in my quest to get 'Back to Forward' released and promoted. Hopefully soon I'll have a PR team working for me, I might sign the all important (for songwriters at least) publishing deal...hell, I may bring out a range of tea towel merchandise...if it helps me promote me and the album I'll consider it! This blog is going to be the story of the journey...I hope it's a successful one!&nbsp;

Thanks for reading and do please download 'We The People' when it comes out on 23rd April on ITunes and <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/We-The-People-Need/dp/B007H26UPI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1334320039&amp;sr=8-1" target="_new">Amazon etc. ;-)

&nbsp;Hi all, I've received a couple of reviews for 'Never Before but Maybe Again', Strutterzine - a Dutch Webzine - gave the album 8/10 You can <a href="http://www.angelfire.com/zine2/strutterzine/HOTNEWREVIEWS184.htm" target="_new">head over to their website and read the review (it's the last review on the page).

I also had some nice words from London based <a href="http://www.koobaradio.co.uk/" target="_new">Kooba Radio, in their Easter Blog they said this about my track 'You're Like a...':

&quot;This is a great independent pop song. It has has roughness where is needs it, quirky synths where it needs it, sweet melodies where it needs it and power guitar stums where it needs it.&quot;

I'm getting close to finishing the new album so expect some tunes soon!

Thanks,
PRJT

Get a free Demo each day for a whole week

During the making of my new album I've recorded a lot of demos, some of them have grown up and turned into songs and some need a little more fairy dust before they can stride out into the real world. I thought it would be good to share some of those demos with everyone signed up to my mailing list so from Saturday 24th March I will be giving away a free download of a demo each day for a week.

To make sure you receive yours then sign-up to my mailing list by entering your email address at the top of this page.

I'd love your feedback on them and who knows, they may make it to proper grown up songs soon!

Thanks,
PRJT
